Infill Dwelling

Kingston upon Hull, UK

A quick look at the project

Unlocked Potential

Through clever design we were able to gain planning permission on this tricky infill site on the end of an established terrace.

Commercial Success

The house was built whilst the existing end-terrace home was refurbished and extended. Both houses sold immediately.

Clever Use of Space

We turned this unloved side garden into a 2 bedroom home, with car parking spaces and generous front and rear gardens.

Upgrading the Terrace

This highly insulated book-end’s the terrace, not only blocking a leaky old wall but bringing a new look to the street.

Room for a little one.

After previous refusals at planning our client came to us to create a sympathetic new dwelling to book-end their house, which would not only fit within the tight narrow plot, but positively enhance the streetscene when carried out in conjunction with upgrades to the existing house.

Client Brief.

Our client had purchased a run-down end terraced property with a side garden that had potential as a building plot, due to the popularity of the area and need for housing.

Main Challenges.

We created detailed plans for an extension and modification to the existing dwelling, and at the same time created concepts for a new to the side, in a style which complemented the existing house and the street-scene. Contrary to the result of previous attempts by others we were delighted to receive support at pre-application stage, thanks to the subtlety of the house.

Outcome.

As with any compact house, clever design was needed to maximise the available space but the result is an affordable home in a desirable area that our client was able to sell with ease.

“After having a previous design refused we approached Studio Six to come up with an innovative idea that would slot into the narrow space. The concepts they created impressed the planners and we were able to eventually secure planning approval.”
